Price’s Pimiento Spread Review

                                                   Price’s Pimiento Spread

I was raised part of my childhood in the Deep South. Those were several of my formative years, and the smells and textures are some that I carry with me to this day. I can remember the best smells of Christmas weren’t from the turkey roasting, but from the Shrimp Remoulade waiting on the sideboard. Summertime meant ribs dripping down your chin. And nobody cared about the bowl of potato chips in the center of the coffee table. We all went after the pimiento spread! Mmm, cheesy and flavorful with just the right balance of pimiento to balance with the cheese- all anyone needed was a saltine to get that load of pimiento cheese from the bowl to my mouth. Now since I’ve grown up and moved North, things are different. Folks up here don’t hardly know what you are talking about if you say pimiento, much pimiento cheese. Those two words don’t go together unless you have family from the South. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to find out Walmart carries Price’s Pimiento Cheese. It needed no explanation- it was home!

All of those wonderful memories came rushing back as soon as I saw the containers! And when I got home, I could hardly wait to dig my knife in and get a good load of cheese for my cracker! Oh, heaven! I felt like a kid again! This Price’s Pimiento Cheese recipe has been around since the 50’s. when the Price’s began making the spread in their kitchen as an appetizer for parties. It’s been going strong for all these years and has grown to the point that they now offer 5 different flavors to choose from. I wasn’t so lucky to have all of those choices here in the North, but I bet if you hail from Texas or down South, you will find Original, Lite, Zesty Jalapeno, Southern Style, or Southern Style Spicy Jalapeno. Whichever one you choose, be ready for a wonderful spread full of chunks of pimiento that you can actually see and taste, as well as large grated cheese and tons of flavor. They definitely didn’t skimp when it comes to flavor! Next time you’re at the store, look in the refrigerated deli section for Price’s Pimiento Cheese Spread. If they don’t carry it, ask them to- it’s worth it!
