Girl of Blood by Norma Hinkens

girl of blood

Girl of Blood is the third book in the The Expulsion Project Series. The first 2 books introduced us to our heroine, Trattora, who was one of the Four- the children catapulted away from the planet Mhakerta in pods in the hope that they would land on planets that would take them in and they would be safe. The children were separated and knew nothing about their backgrounds until years later, when they discovered the truth as Trattora fought to save her planet and was taken by Oremongers. In Girl of Blood, Trattora , Velkan, and Phin face trial for the death of the Fleet Commander, the punishment being either banishment to Skytus, a penal planet, or death. They are rescued at the last minute by Ayma, as she makes a deal with an unlikely pair to infiltrate the ship as it’s headed to the penal planet and take Trattora and Velkan with them. The pair soon find out that Ayma has made a deal with Crank and Sarth, who soon turn against the group in an effort to make a killing on Cwelt’s prized possession, dargonite. Trattora soon finds herself back on her home planet only to find that it has been taken over by Maulers and her father and mother have been murdered. She vows to take revenge on those responsible and restore peace to her planet once again. This book brings the series to completion in a very satisfying way and answers all of the questions I had. Norma Hinkens, you’ve done it again!

Ascension of Larks by Rachel Linden

I was intrigued by this book first of all, because it was listed as Christian fiction. I am always on the lookout for faith-based reading material and I’m happy to read and review those books in the hopes that I will find a new author to add to my ever widening list of favorites. However, I would not have listed this as Christian fiction, as there was only the smallest mention of Christianity, Catholicism, or Faith- not what I would expect to be a faith-based story.

That being said, I enjoyed the story immensely. It begins in South America, where Maggie Henry is in the middle of a photo shoot in a remote village. She receives word from her friend Lena that Lena’s husband, Marco Firelli, has died. She makes the trip back to the San Juan Islands, back to the beach house that she has spent countless summers with the only man she ever loved, her best friend Lena- the woman he married, and their 3 children. She’s never been able to settle down with anyone since Marco and doesn’t know how she’ll go on without him. Even more, she now has to resolve herself to the fact that she’ll never have the chance to be with him, the chance that she secretly always thought she might have somehow, some way, someday. Instead, she goes to be by Lena’s side and try to understand what happened to Marco. In the days that ensue, there are more questions than answers, more puzzles to be solved, more problems to be figured out. Each day Maggie recognizes more and more that Lena is in denial and something is definitely wrong. But when Lena makes a choice that changes things for them all, Maggie is forced to make some tough decisions that will change her life forever.

This book had plenty of great plot twists, lots of beautifully descriptive scenic backdrops, and well developed characters. Although it doesn’t state that it’s part of a series, I can totally see it being the part one to a series. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Egg Roll Wraps from Nasoya

I tried the Egg Roll Wraps from Nasoya and made Lumpia using a recipe my friend gave me. I was a little clumsy and had a hard time getting them to roll tightly and seal well, but it was because of a hand injury- not because of the product. I actually thought the Egg Roll Wraps were awesome and worked well. They tasted great and cooked up nice and crisp- just like my friend’s! #trynatural #gotitfree

Natural Hair Loss Treatment For Men & Women from Nutriroots

I have noticed in the past few years that my hair is thinning slightly. Not as drastic as male pattern baldness or Alopecia, which is a condition which results in hair loss, but still noticeable to me. I can’t seem to get much in the way of fullness or results when I try to style my hair. I read in a couple of different places that there were certain supplements that helped with strengthening hair and follicles and could even help your hair to grow thicker and more than it has been growing. Okay, I know there’s no miracle pill, but I do take vitamins and supplements daily and I believe they help. So this was a good time to put it to the test. I got a bottle of Natural Hair Loss Treatment For Men & Women from Nutriroots.

Natural Hair Loss Treatment For Men & Women is made from a specialized formula of 25+ essential vitamins, minerals and herbs designed to work together to help nourish your hair and its follicles from the inside out. These ingredients are non-GMO, vegan friendly, Gluten free, and contain absolutely no preservatives, additives, or unsafe ingredients. I have been taking Biotin for the last 8 months or so and my hair and nails are both growing stronger and longer. One of the ingredients in Natural Hair Loss Treatment For Men & Women is Biotin and I believe that is a good enough reason to trust it to work.

I took 2 capsules each day with my breakfast. I did note that you are not to take these within an hour of taking other medications so I made sure to take my other meds earlier or later so that I didn’t have any side effects from them. The capsules are fairly large but have no taste or smell. They’re made in the USA in a FDA registered lab, so you know they’ve passed stringent testing before being offered for sale. This product is designed for both men and women and is used to help promote strength and growth in your hair or your money back. 100% no questions asked. That’s backing their product, I’d say!

Bob’s Red Mill Muesli Review

Bob's Red Mill Muesli 1

I love this product, especially the Tropical Muesli! I tried eating it as cereal which was delicious. Each bite was an adventure because sometimes it tasted of coconut and sometimes it tasted of different flavors of strawberry or mango. Or I’d get a bite with macadamia or a pumpkin seed in it. I loved every bite!

I made Oatmeal Raisin Cookies a couple of days before my get together and when I was about to spoon out the last cookies onto the sheet pan, I had a light bulb moment and added the Tropical Muesli to the cookie dough. I baked the cookies for the same length of time and they came out delicious! Everyone raved about them! Nobody knew what I had done until after they had tasted them- then I confessed my trick! Now we have a new favorite cookie recipe!

For our tasting, I used little cups of Muesli on a tray so that everyone could sample either or both kinds. Most people had not heard of Muesli but knew how to make oatmeal. I love that one serving contains 16 grams of whole grains, with only four grams of sugar per serving. I explained that it could be eaten hot or cold, even made as “Overnight Muesli”, as well as used in recipes. I shared the cookies and they went over well. I have a couple of moms who have gluten free homes and they were happy to see that this was a gluten free, natural and organic product. I gave out extra bags of muesli to guests who wanted to try it out right away and everyone was glad to get coupons. This was such a success- but then, Bob’s Red Mill products have always been a success whenever I have tried them.

Bobs Red Mill Muesli can be found in many stores as well as ordered through their online store here:

Ozeri Serafino Double Wall Insulated Beverage and Coffee Glasses, set of four 8 oz. glasses

I got a set of four 8 oz. Serafino Double Wall Insulated Beverage and Coffee Glasses from Ozeri and I am really loving them. They are double walled, heat and condensation resistant, and made from borosilicate. They are strong but feel elegant in my hand. plus it protects your fingers from extreme temperatures.

Serafino Double Wall Insulated Beverage and Coffee Glasses from Ozeri don’t get condensation on them when left on the table, so no rings to worry about. And your fingers won’t get burnt from holding a cup of hot liquids either. They are designed to use with either hot or cold liquids. The double walled design makes them able to hold the temperature of the liquid for longer periods without affecting the outside of the glass.

They are microwave and freezer safe and look nice on any table. They look and feel more like a nice wine glass than a drinking glass. There’s just a very elegant feel to them. They are made from Borosilicate, which is stronger than typical glass but I would caution you against banging them or dropping ice cubes into them, in case they shatter. As with any Ozeri product, they come with a No-Hassle Guarantee.

Ozeri Moderna Artisan Series Double Wall Beverage Glasses

I got a set of four 8 oz  Moderna Artisan Series Double Wall Beverage Glasses from Ozeri and I’m totally loving these glasses. I got the Serafino glasses first and really liked them. The shape is very unique and they are double walled to keep liquids from changing temperature based on the outside temperature. The Moderna Series has the added benefit of mouth-blown dimples that make each glass fit comfortably in your hand. I broke my hand last year and have not been able to hold a glass very well, especially if it’s full. But these glasses fit perfectly to my hand. I love that these glasses don’t get condensation when sitting with cold liquids. Hot liquids won’t burn my fingers either because of that double walled protection.

The Moderna Artisan Series Double Wall Beverage Glasses from Ozeri are sleek and stylish, fully functional and completely microwave and freezer safe. That being said, I have read that there are some people who have had issues because of dropping ice cubes into their glass or rapping it against something, causing it to shatter. These glasses have a vacuum in them from having two walls with air in between them. There are some incidents where the glass can break, so it’s best to use caution as you would with any glass product. At any rate, Ozeri stands behind their product and offers a No-hassle Warranty on their Moderna Artisan Series Double Wall Beverage Glasses, Satisfaction Guaranteed.

Detangling Jewelry Hack

I was getting ready for church today and I had a necklace in mind that I wanted to wear. I opened the drawer that holds my jewelry and looked in the little pockets for the necklace, only to find that it had become entangled with other necklaces and chains in the same pocket. I struggled for a few minutes trying in vain to detangle to mess, only to eventually have to give up and select a different necklace and hurry on my way.

I had heard that you could use baby powder to help with detangling knots in chains so I thought it might help with this proble as well. I got a plate with an edge and my container of baby powder and sprinkled the powder liberally over the knotted chains. I moved them around in the powder  so that they were all coated, then used a long pin to gently pull on them to ease them apart. This requires a little patience and good eyesight to accomplish the task. It took me about 5 minutes to detangle the knot and straighten out all of the chains- 2 of which had knots in them as well. I then gave them all a gentle cleaning and separated them for storage in the jewelry drawer. Task accomplished.

Girl of Stone by Norma Hinkens

Girl of Stone

I just finished the book Girl of Stone by Norma Hinkens and it was every bit as good as the first book in the series, Girl of Fire (The Expulsion Project Book 1).

Ms Hinkens has a flair for setting a scene that draws you in as though you were sitting right in the middle of the action, every bit a part of what is going on. Her style is very easy to read and very hard to put down. Many times I found myself saying “Oh gosh, is it 3:00 AM already?” The characters, Trattora and Velkan, are believable and sometimes show their vulnerability, reminding me of what had brought them to where they are now. I hate to say too much in case you haven’t already read the first book. If you haven’t, definitely read it first! Then grab this one! Then you’re stuck along with the rest of us until Norma gets done with Girl of Blood, the final installment in the Espulsion Project Series. I sure hope she’s got something in the works for us once that’s been released. She can’t crank them out fast enough for me!
